The Time Lapse Incubators – What they are and why we use them

Time lapse incubator takes photographs every few minutes to record cell division and embryo development. This helps the embryologist and clinician to choose the best embryos for transfer and to separate abnormal or non-viable embryos.

This video shows normal development of an egg from fertilization to Blastocyst (Day 5).

With time lapse technology, the eggs/embryos are undisturbed for these five days to allow a stable environment for development.

Without time lapse the embryos have to be removed from the incubator each day , disturbing their environment.
